Stanley Island is 28 ha in size meaning its abouts 1km wide by 2km long. This is sufficient for a morning stroll after a morning cup of tea or coffee. The island has an amazing abundance of birdlife and the indigeneous forest has some beautifull milkwoods, yellowwoods, cape ash and several other indigeneous species. Plettenberg Bay and Knysna on the Garden Route has many poular hiking trails as well.

Just across the river is the Keurbooms river nature reserve that has some lovely forest hikes. The road up to the top of Alkantmooi just above the island is a popular easy hike and meanders up the hilll through some lovely forest. The views from the top are spectacular and being mostly on a jeep track is easily accessible for all.

The Harkerville area is very poular amongst hikers and mountainbikers and some lovely hikes are through Diepwalle, the Big tree and Krantzview. Keurboomstrand is also lovely for seaside hikes to arch rock and catherdral rock. A daytrip to Salt river near Natures valley is also a must! The Robberg peninsula is a popular daytrip and a hike to the point and back takes between 3 and 4 hours.
