Stanley Island situated in the Keurbooms river just 5km upriver from Plettenberg Bay is a wonderfull boating destination. The Keurbooms river is a very scenic river to do river cruises on as it is a very diverse river system.

Upstream from Stanley Island is the Keurbooms nature reserve. The Reserve encompasses the Keurbooms river gorge. The gorge has beautifull milkwoods, giant yellowwoods and an abundance of forest and water birds. At sunrise and sunset the shy Bushbuck is often spotted. Downstream from the island is the Keurbooms river estuary where the river slowly meanders over a wide floodplain with a profusion of waterbirds. The seagull sanctuary is home to a variety of nesting seagulls, terns, oystercatchers and other  waterbirds. Cruises to the rivermouth are popular for sunsets and gives easy access to the Keurbooms beach that is a wild unspoilt beach for over 10km to the little hamlet of Keurboomstrand.
